This sounds very good,especially for Super Bowl week. I used to make beans from scratch. It was an old New England tradition. Since discovering the delicious varieties of Bush’s beans, I enjoy the simplicity and taste.I am happy to learn that beans are one of the top culinary trends.

I agree with you and Flavor-Online. Many drink recipes that we share are just as tasty without the alcohol. A herb infused virgin Mary, and hot cider with tangerine juice come to mind.

That is a difficult question. I can’t pick. When in Germany this past Sept, the chef at la vie was outstanding and personable. La Vie just got it’s third Michellin star in Dec. aqua at the Ritz Carlton was outstanding. However, one of my most memorable and tasty, was the single Michellin star in Lyon where we enjoyed the bubbling crayfish souflee. I can still taste that.

We are lucky to have had the opportunity to experience so much.

What is your favorite so far? My most memorable is the French Laundry. How lucky we were to spend time with Chef

There are several terrific Peruvian restaurants in Sarasota, most are organic and sustainable, for the next time you visit. Their chicken, chicharron, also has a salsa de ago with red onion and tomato. Crispix and the simply delicious recipe – for family treats and neighborhood goodies. Interestingly, I will be with

Hi Skip, It has been a long time since I have seen you and Fran in person. I am enjoying your travel journals in our column very much. When I lived in London, I would take the Eurostar to Paris for the day…mostly just to walk, food shop and eat. I usually made the journey ‘tourist’ class. However, if you ask,this marvelous train offers specials and discounts. You are right, any way you go it is a hoot!I look forward to your December 11 story.

We allenjoyed this exact recipe for our holiday feast. It was traditional,tasty hot and easy…thanks to the make in the morning recipe. Each year I try to change a few dishes, but not this one. This recipe sounds terrific – great for a party.
I brought back maple syrup from Vermont and
always have beer. It was handy to learn that
grade B maple syrup is less expensive and more

I thoroughly enjoyed Skip’s descriptions. This is great since
I know Fran and Skip, but have not seen them for ages.
What fun for you to rendevous in Paris! I love this small world.
After living in London I can picture Skip’s adventures. But
how did I ever miss the longest champagne bar? Champagne and the martinis at the Mayfair were the best drinks I had in London, besides warm beer! Time to return! I enjoy our small group of guest bloggers.

I can still taste the delectable stuffed acorn squash
that Andy taught us how to prepare at the Ranch. I remember one of
saying..”Perfect for Thanksgiving”. Good timing,
as I will be at a shared dinner with some people
from China and a few vegetarians. I look forward to our
next cooking lesson at the Ranch in July. This is truly a
farm to fork experience.

Hi John,

I appreciated your comments about the local
restaurant scene. Like you and Maralyn I don’t
know why a chef, owner, or anyone would not
be proud to point out their purveyors. I think
most chefs I know are eager to give credit. Our
local sustainable Sarasota Originals certainly
promotes this concept, as well as our dozen area
farm markets. By using high quality products, a chef
can only add to his success. With your permission, I would
like to share these blog comments with Puccinis. Perhaps
the chef does both, makes his own and buys from that
good Italian market when he is too busy? Thank you again. We
appreciate your insight and interest.

Next time in the South Gate neighborhood try
The Sarasota Sausage Company. I have watched Jim
make delicious sausage- and applewood smoked bacon( best
I ever tasted). Also Ooh La La is a wonderful French
bakery. Small batch is also delicious- Clementine- cranberry muffins…
The British Tea Room is real. And Mr. Beery’s craft beer is a find. Good
chow next door. What luck to land in this neighborhood. Enjoy…Brenda.

Hi John,

First, I’m glad you enjoy the food at Puccini’s. Next, I can’t answer. I’m not sure why some feel the need to not share where they get their information. I’ve been in many places that list the other local suppliers they use for products. It is appreciated by the customers and it does help locals. My guess is with all of the focus on everyone doing everything from scratch, he feels pressured to not mention where he get’s certain products. In any case, I guess he is a fantastic chef. I’ve not tasted his food yet, but Brenda goes there frequently. ~Maralyn

A great restaurant in sarasota Puccini’s, I have been going there for about a year now and also been to other places around town. One thing that I did not like is the fact that the chef and owner tells everyone that he makes the sausage that he buys from Piccolo Italian Market which I witnessed my self several days ago while I was sitting there with my wife having a late lunch. I then approched the owners from Piccolo which it was a pleasure to talk to and I asked them about Puccini and they said that the owner buys alot from them. Why do people have to lie when local business can help each other!!!
